Get a JOB!

Ok folks.  Here's the secret.  The number one wealth building tool is your income.  In order to have an income you need a job.  If you don't have a job, your job is to get a job.  This does not mean filling out applications online and waiting around for someone to call you.  This doesn't even mean going to the location and filling out an application and waiting for a response.  You have got to be aggressive.  And when I say that your job is to get a job, that's exactly what I mean.  You will need to spend 4-7 hours a day, every day, hunting down that job until you get one.

First, you need to present yourself in the best light with a good resume.  Yes.  A resume.  This tells who you are, where you live, where you went to school, any special skills you may have, your job history and any hobbies you like.  You can find many professional templates online if you need help.  This is key to getting noticed.

Next, you need to find out who your contact person is whether it be the actual person who you will report to, a Human Resource person, or who will be conducting the interviews.  When you find out who this person is, you need to send them a personal letter stating you interest in this position along with your resume.  Find out their phone number and call and leave them a personal message.  Ask if they have received your letter and resume and when they will be conducting the interviews.  Try to get in there.  Contact this person by phone or voice mail once a week.

And last, when you finally get the interview, no matter what type of job it is, dress professional.  I don't care if it's delivering pizzas, working for a coffee shop, the mall, or an office position.  Dress like a professional and be personable.  That is to be nice, friendly, outgoing.  Share with your interviewer about you family and your interests.

These are the steps that I have taken to get any job I have ever had.  From my very first job at 15 years old at the movie theater to working in a corporate office.  I have gotten just about every job I have ever pursued and you can to.  Remember that you cannot build wealth if you don't have a job, so stop dreaming about how you can get rich quick 10 different ways by working 2 hours a day on the couch while you watch television and play Playstation.

One last note.  You don't have the luxury to sit around and wait for something in your "field".  I know many people that don't have a job, can barely eat, always need money and use the excuse that there is nothing available in their field, trade or profession.  Well waaaa, waaa, waaa.  Your family is dying here.  You may have to swallow your pride and get a job at a warehouse, a fast food place or delivering pizzas.  You will be surprised how much you can make doing that and it will be more than your unemployment check.   Don't tell me that it's rough in this economy.  Many people are making lots of money and getting new jobs in this economy.  Ignore it, take a shower, get dressed and hit the pavement!
